Holy Moly

Do you ever have that feeling that maybe you should have started something just a bit sooner but that you have to get it done so you work faster and smarter?

I purchased my dress fabric on Saturday and I'm very happy with it. Now, I have to admit that this is the first not-appropriate period dress that I've made in a long time and I'm enjoying it:) It's a Butterick pattern and I'm using synthetic materials albeit very pretty materials. It's an empire dress with a sleeveless jacket/robey-thing over it. I like it. I have the bodice of the dress cut out and done and the lining for the jacket/robe cut out and fit. Luckily Mom and Leah are coming for Thanksgiving this weekend and they can help fit the dress bodice better.
And the best part of this: I actually have a sewing room to sew in. Well, actually, it's the basement but it works very well. Large flat surfaces for cutting, actual windows and real light, an ironing board, a TV/DVD player to keep me company and all the dirty laundry I can wash:) So I guess that I have a sewing basement. And I can just toss my threads and scraps on the floor because who cares, it's the basement;) It gives Mac and Gus (cats) something to play with or roll around on, which is very important when you are a cat.

I hope that all of you are getting as excited for Thanksgiving as I am. We are hosting the Indiana clan (with a "c" not a "k") and I'm excited to see them all. I like to tease Matt that his in-laws are invading and he just smiles. Also, I love cooking for tons of people. And since it's normally just the two of us, to me 6 is a ton.
I think part of me is a 19th century farm wife. I'm sure that is a big shock to most people reading this (I kid, I kid). I like to cook, can, grow my own veggies, sew, knit, and all sorts of things that late 20-somethings aren't really supposed to want to do. Hey, buck the trend. It's my life and I'll can if I want to, can if I want to, you would can to if it happened to you.

Ok, no more songs, I promise.
I hope that everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving. Travel safely and enjoy time with family.

Very First Time

Ok, so this is my first blog. Ever. I've never even made a comment on someone else's blog. But you know, it seems like everyone else is doing it so I peer-pressured myself into it as well.
Who knows, maybe you could convince me to jump off a bridge because I'm very susceptible right now. Just kidding.

Items of interest: Thanksgiving I love Thanksgiving and not just because it is completely overlooked between Halloween and Christmas and I usually cheer for the underdog but how great is it that we have a holiday that encourages 1. time with family 2. relaxing in a post-turkey haze 3. being thankful for what we have and recongizing that we are very blessed in our lives. For example, I'm blessed to always wake up to Gus Kitty trying to get me to pet him and/or licking my nose. Kitty breath is always a treat in the morning:)

We have a Christmas event coming up in less than three weeks and I need to make a dress for it. I have the pattern.....
And that's it. Maybe I should buy some fabric, notions, etc. or something

More later.

How'd I do on my first try?
